Revlon Age Defying CC Cream Review

YouTube Video Review + Demo

New launch from Revlon for 2014. This CC cream is supposed to hydrate, smooth, brighten, cover flaws, and even skin tone. It appears the new craze this coming Spring will be CC Creams. The supposed superstar sister to the quite popular BB creams, CC creams are supposed to offer even more benefits. Specifically, CC stands for color correction (i.e. more evening of skin tone and better coverage). I have yet to be overly impressed with the U.S. versions of CC creams. This new one from Revlon has yet to change my mind. Below is my list of pros and cons with the Revlon Age Defying CC cream and thoughts.

Pros:

  • Good hydration (especially for dry skin)
  • Has SPF 30
  • Nice packaging (Squeeze tube makes for easy use without a mess or contamination of product)
Cons:
  • Did not do very much for evening skin tone on initial application or over time.
  • Has poor coverage (sheer to light). Did nothing for flaws.
  • Heavy moisture content (so if you are combo to oily, you may find it makes skin too oily)
  • PRICE! About $13.99 for 1 oz.
Final Grade: C-
Would NOT repurchase.

Best & Worst Drugstore Concealers for Acne / Blemishes

Their are so many different drugstore concealers claiming to be the best for coverage. I decided to test out 10 of the most popular drugstore concealers for spot coverage (acne, discoloration, blemishes) and see how well they held up throughout the day. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised by several. An in-depth video is up on YouTube. Below is my ranking of the 10 I tested out (10 being the worst, 1 the best).

10. NYX Full Coverage Concealer in a Jar ~ Shade Beige ~ $4.99

9. Revlon Photoready Concealer ~ Shade Light ~ $9.99

8. L'oreal True Match Concealer ~ Shade W 1-2-3 ~ $8.99

Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos

Clockwise (starting from left): Nude Pink, Just Beige, Matte Brown

From left to right: Nude Pink, Just Beige, Matte Brown

New limited edition Maybelline Color Tattoos have me very excited. They are all matte and remind me quite a bit of Mac's Paint Pots. "Nude Pink" looks like a slightly more gray pink dupe for "Painterly." "Just Beige" looks like a slightly more peachy dupe for "Soft Ochre", and "Matte Brown" is just a bit deeper than Mac's "Groundwork." Nonetheless, they are much cheaper and as good . . . if not better. I only hope that Maybelline decides to add these to their permanent line. It seems kind of odd that such basic, neutral colors that would work amazingly as eye shadow bases are not already part of the line. I found mine at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Below is a list of the Pros & Cons.

Pros:
  • Very pigmented & creamy
  • Blend nicely on eyelid
  • Do not crease - will work as an eye shadow primer
  • All matte
  • Great price point ~ $6.99
Cons:
  • Limited edition, which means the stock of these is low and they will be hard to find. My best suggestions are Walgreens, Rite Aid, or Bed, Bath & Beyond.
  • The "Matte Brown" is probably the least creamy, smooth of the group. It can go on a little clumpy, but can be buffed out. A little goes a long way.
Overall Rating: 9/10
Would definitely repurchase these over and over again.

Best & Worst Drugstore Concealers for Dark Circles

New video up on YouTube! I have spent quite a bit of time putting this video together, testing out a lot of different concealers. 9. NYX HD Photogenic Concealer - Shade Light ~ $4.99

8. NYX Full Coverage Concealer in a Jar - Shade Beige ~ $4.99

7. L'oreal Magic Lumi Concealer - Shade Light ~ $12.99

6. Revlon PhotoReady Concealer - Shade Light & Light/Medium ~ $9.99

5. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - Shade Sand ~ $6.99

4. Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer - Shade Nude ~ $7.99

3. Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer - Shade Neutralizer ~ $8.99

2. Cover Girl + Olay Concealer Balm - Shade Fair/Light ~ $9.99

1. Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette - Shade Light ~ $10.49

Cover Girl + Olay Concealer Balm Review

My Video Review on YouTube

This is one my favorite drugstore finds, especially as an under eye concealer. I use it in the shade "Fair/Light #320" and find that it does everything I need for covering up my dark circles. It retails for about $9.99, but you can always find Cover Girl products on sale. Below is my list of Pros & Cons.

Pros:

  • Creamy; easy to blend
  • Good coverage with slight pink undertone to help neutralize dark under eye circles
  • Good staying power
  • Does not crease or settle into fine lines
  • As long as skin is not too dry, can be worn without under eye cream
  • Great packaging - user friendly, travel friendly
  • Decent color range compared to other drugstore concealers.
Cons:
  • Lacks good color options for darker skin tones
  • May be too emollient for those with oily under eye area.

Spring Trend: Mint & Lace

So I am currently a little obsessed with the color mint green, which happens to still be really popular for Spring 2013. I found this great pair of cream lace shorts from Target on a recent shopping adventure which I thought would pair nicely with one of my favorite new cardigans. It balances a mix of classic cuts with some trendy colors and textures. I think this outfit has a very sweet, feminine feel to it that works well for a Sunday brunch or wear it into the evening for a casual, romantic date.

Korres Lip Butters

I have quite the infatuation with Korres Lip Butters. The makeup company originates from Greece. I discovered them 3 years ago per the recommendation of YouTube beauty guru, MakeupByTiffanyD, and have been in love ever since. They are super hydrating with a sheer dose of color and lots of pretty shine. They all contain shea butter which is ultra hydrating and have delicious scents that make you want to lick them off your lips. Better yet, they are supposed to be all-natural . . . so, I guess if you really wanted to eat them, you could. I love them so much that I own every color they have released. My favorite is "Jasmine" because it smells like warm caramel. I guess the names are not accurate descriptions of the smells, but that would truly be the only criticism I could find with these awesome lip balms! Check out the swatches below.

Top Row: Plum, Wild Rose, Quince   Bottom Row: Mango, Pomegranate, Guava, Jasmine

Left to Right: Plum, Wild Rose, Quince

L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara Review

L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Mascara

I wanted to love this mascara because I tend to love many of the L'Oreal mascaras, but I found this latest launch from the company to be mediocre at best. Below is my list of pros & cons as well as pictures of it applied on my lashes. Let me know if you tried this mascara and liked it.

Pros:

  • Elegant, sleek packaging
  • Small brush allows you to draw out every lash with mascara
  • Formula in color "Blackest Black" goes on as black as the description states.
  • Holds curl well
  • Formula did not clump with 2 coats.
Cons:
  • Rubber bristle brush - not a fan. I don't feel like it applies the mascara evenly.
  • Formula FLAKED and smudged throughout the day with just 2 coats
  • Did not build much volume
  • Lengthened lashes just okay. It could have provided more length, considering that is its claim to fame.
Overall Rating: 5 out of 10

A big con for me is the fact that this mascara flaked so much throughout the day. It is enough of a reason for me not to use it.

Lashes (curled with eyelash curler) without mascara

My right eye (your left) has two coats of L'Oreal Shocking Extension Mascara

My left eye (your right) has one coat of Lancome Definicils Mascara and one coat of L'Oreal Shocking Extension  Mascara over it.
