Best & Worst Drugstore Concealers for Acne / Blemishes

Their are so many different drugstore concealers claiming to be the best for coverage. I decided to test out 10 of the most popular drugstore concealers for spot coverage (acne, discoloration, blemishes) and see how well they held up throughout the day. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised by several. An in-depth video is up on YouTube. Below is my ranking of the 10 I tested out (10 being the worst, 1 the best).

Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos

Clockwise (starting from left): Nude Pink, Just Beige, Matte Brown

From left to right: Nude Pink, Just Beige, Matte Brown

New limited edition Maybelline Color Tattoos have me very excited. They are all matte and remind me quite a bit of Mac's Paint Pots. "Nude Pink" looks like a slightly more gray pink dupe for "Painterly." "Just Beige" looks like a slightly more peachy dupe for "Soft Ochre", and "Matte Brown" is just a bit deeper than Mac's "Groundwork." Nonetheless, they are much cheaper and as good . . . if not better. I only hope that Maybelline decides to add these to their permanent line. It seems kind of odd that such basic, neutral colors that would work amazingly as eye shadow bases are not already part of the line. I found mine at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Below is a list of the Pros & Cons.

Pros:
  • Very pigmented & creamy
  • Blend nicely on eyelid
  • Do not crease - will work as an eye shadow primer
  • All matte
  • Great price point ~ $6.99
Cons:
  • Limited edition, which means the stock of these is low and they will be hard to find. My best suggestions are Walgreens, Rite Aid, or Bed, Bath & Beyond.
  • The "Matte Brown" is probably the least creamy, smooth of the group. It can go on a little clumpy, but can be buffed out. A little goes a long way.
Overall Rating: 9/10
Would definitely repurchase these over and over again.

Cover Girl + Olay Concealer Balm Review

My Video Review on YouTube

This is one my favorite drugstore finds, especially as an under eye concealer. I use it in the shade "Fair/Light #320" and find that it does everything I need for covering up my dark circles. It retails for about $9.99, but you can always find Cover Girl products on sale. Below is my list of Pros & Cons.

Pros:

  • Creamy; easy to blend
  • Good coverage with slight pink undertone to help neutralize dark under eye circles
  • Good staying power
  • Does not crease or settle into fine lines
  • As long as skin is not too dry, can be worn without under eye cream
  • Great packaging - user friendly, travel friendly
  • Decent color range compared to other drugstore concealers.
Cons:
  • Lacks good color options for darker skin tones
  • May be too emollient for those with oily under eye area.
